All our designs are printed on Nine Lives which is a recycled, chlorine-free paper, made from made from 25% post-consumer waste, 30% pre-consumer waste and 45% original, providing a smooth even surface and high white shade to the awarded international standards ISO14001.
Conventional printing inks are petroleum-based and may contain pigments that are harmful to human health and the environment such as cadmium, chromium, lead and mercury.
However, all our inks are vegetable oil-based containing less than 2% volatile organic compounds (VOCs). By using ink that is 98% non-evaporative, polluting emissions are virtually eliminated. Soya and vegetable based inks also benefit the environment due to greater ease of removal from wastepaper during de-inking for recycling.
At the moment all our products are printed by “direct lithography” using chemical free processing. This is the only plate system on the market that is completely chemistry-free using ThermoFuse technology to physically bond images to the plate without any chemical processing. The result is highly stable and predictable thermal imaging, without any compromises on print quality.
A lot of work has already been carried out in this area, and improvements will continually be made in the coming year to identify more opportunities to reduce our environmental impact through design and printing.
All our envelope wraps are made from a unique film which is 100% compostable since it is made from the annually renewable resource, corn, instead of petrochemicals.
This way, once the consumer has finished with the packaging, he or she can simply throw the bag in the compost instead of the trash, with little to no packaging ending up in the landfill.
The biodegradable capsule will instantly dissolve within a few minutes once the section of card is removed, planted and watered, releasing the seeds into the ground for germination.
Most seeds have a shelf life dependent on both inherent and environmental factors. All our seeds have been carefully chosen to be as simple as possible to grow, with a shelf life between two and five years.
However, seeds are a product of nature and while every effort, has been made to ensure our seeds reach you in perfect condition, Plant a Card can't take any responsibility as soil conditions and planting are entirely down to the owners discretion.
